Smooth hitting from Satin gets Mets past Braves

Jun 21, 2013 - 3:39 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Josh Satin doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as the New York Mets edged the Atlanta Braves, 4-3, in the final tilt of a rare five-game set at Turner Field.

With Mike Minor (8-3) pitching for the Braves, Omar Quintanilla doubled to begin the seventh. Satin then took a 2-1 pitch and doubled to right to break a 3-3 tie.

LaTroy Hawkins (2-0) allowed just two hits over the fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win and Bobby Parnell pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his 11th save.

David Wright went 3-for-4 and clubbed two home runs, while Andrew Brown has a solo shot to help the Mets take three of five in the series.

"It's a lot more fun to win, no matter what position you're in," said Wright. "We've had our struggles in Atlanta, but we kicked it off with the doubleheader and we were able to take the rubber match."

New York starter Jon Niese lasted just 3 1/3 innings before leaving the game with discomfort in his left shoulder. On his final pitch, he winced in pain and immediately motioned towards his shoulder. He ended up yielding eight hits and three runs with five strikeouts.

The Mets struck first when Wright homered with two outs in the first. However, the Braves answered back in the home half. Tyler Pastornicky and Jason Heyward led off with back-to-back singles. After Freddie Freeman flied out to center, Justin Upton delivered a single to right to score Pastornicky.

The Braves scored two more runs in the third. Freeman and Justin Upton each singled with one out in the inning. After B.J. Upton struck out, Chris Johnson and Gerald Laird connected on back-to-back RBI singles to give them a 3-1 lead.

Wright's second homer of the night started the fourth. The Mets had a chance to score more after loading the bases with no one out, but Juan Lagares flew out to right and Quintaniila grounded into a 1-2-3 double play.

Brown's leadoff homer in the fifth tied the game at 3-3.

The Braves had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Andrelton Simmons reached first on a fielding error by Wright. Following a flyout by Jordan Schafer, Pastornicky singled to right to put runners at the corners, but Heyward grounded out to first to end the inning.

"A lot of games in a lot of days. It's tough, we battled," said Laird. "I liked the way we battled after being swept in the doubleheader. We played a tough game. We just couldn't scratch that last run."
