Mets LHP Perez returns from DL to face Reds

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - Oliver Perez takes the hill for the first time in over a month on Sunday as the New York Mets look to take a four-game series from the Cincinnati Reds.

Perez (7-6, 3.14 ERA) was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 2 with lower back stiffness and has not pitched since June 26.

New York, which stumbled into the All-Star breaking losing six of its last eight, won Saturday, 2-1, thanks to a eight strong innings from Tom Glavine and a go-ahead RBI single from Lastings Milledge.

As for Perez, he was ineffective in the month June before landing on the disabled list, registering 16 walks in his last 24 innings. In his last start, the 25-year-old allowed two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals, but did not factor into the decision.

Perez will be opposed by Kyle Lohse (5-10, 4.47), who has won two straight. The righthander is coming off a superb outing in which he threw a complete game, limiting Arizona to one run and four hits on July 6.

Cincinnati has been playing well of late, having won six of nine under interim manager Pete Mackanin.
