Contreras hopes to end personal three-game slide

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox will try to avoid a three-game series sweep when they meet the Baltimore Orioles in Sunday's finale.

Nick Markakis drove in two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Orioles rallied for a 7-6 victory on Saturday.

"I just went up there looking to hit the ball where it's pitched and try not to do too much with it," Markakis said. "You never know what you're going to get with a knuckleballer, so you just go with the pitch."

Chicago hands the ball to Jose Contreras (5-10, 5.19 ERA), who will try to end his personal three-game slide. In his last start, the righthander was pounded for six runs through five innings of a 9-6 setback to Baltimore on July 4.

Contreras is 3-3 with a 5.24 ERA in nine lifetime appearances - including eight starts - against the Orioles, who won Friday's series opener, 2-0.

Baltimore will counter with rookie Garret Olson (0-0, 4.15), who gave up two runs and hits over 4 1/3 innings in his major league debut vs. the White Sox.

The 23-year-old lefthander replaced reliever Scott Williamson, who was designated for assignment. Olson went 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA with Class AAA Norfolk.
