White Sox shoot for series win over Royals

Jun 22, 2013 - 1:05 PM (Sports Network) - After earning an easy win on Friday, the Chicago White Sox will try to take control of their weekend series against the Kansas City Royals Saturday at Kauffman Stadium.

Eight of nine White Sox starters registered at least one hit on Friday as they made easy work of the Royals in the first game of the series, 9-1.

Alejandro De Aza connected for his 10th home run out of the leadoff spot. Dayan Viciedo also went deep for the visitors, blasting a three-run shot in the third inning, while Alexei Ramirez and Alex Rios each had two hits and two runs scored.

Hector Santiago was brilliant in the win, allowing just three hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out five in eight innings of work.

"We just kept putting on and putting on," said Santiago, who was able to work with a 7-0 lead as early as the third inning. "(The offense) score runs and you want to get them back in so they keep scoring."

Jeremy Guthrie was roughed up for six earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings for his second consecutive loss, which has come on the heels of back-to-back wins to start June.

The Royals' only run came on an Eric Hosmer homer in the sixth inning. Hosmer finished with two of the team's three hits.

The White Sox will turn to Jose Quintana on Saturday. The southpaw has been steady in 14 starts this season, sporting a 3.86 ERA with a 3-2 record.

Quintana has come away with no-decisions in each of his last four starts, including his last outing against Houston on June 17, where he allowed just two earned runs but failed to make it out of the fifth inning.

The 24-year-old faced off against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium earlier this season, allowing six hits and three earned runs in five innings.

The Royals will answer with Wade Davis, who's struggled this season with a 4-5 record and a 5.18 ERA, and opposing batters have hit .325 against him.

Despite his down season, Davis has pieced together an impressive June with a 2.04 ERA over 17 2/3 innings. He tossed six strong innings his last time out, allowing two earned runs in a win over Tampa Bay on June 16.

The White Sox have beaten the Royals two straight times after losing the previous three matchups.
