Haren aims to continue stellar season as A's face Twins
Jul 15, 2007 - 2:45 PM Oakland (44-47) at Minnesota (48-43) 2:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- After starting the All-Star Game for the American League, Dan Haren aims to carry over his stellar first half as the Oakland Athletics look to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.
Haren (10-3, 2.30 ERA) hopes to snap the Athletics out of the doldrums. Oakland lost its sixth straight game and fell three games below .500 for the first time this season with a 4-3 loss to the Twins on Saturday night.
It is the first time the A's have lost at least six consecutive games since May 2006.
The star righthander holds the best ERA in the American League and had won 10 straight decisions before dropping a 7-1 decision to the Seattle Mariners in his last outing before the All-Star break on July 6.
Haren allowed four runs - three earned - and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings in that contest.
He will be opposed by Boof Bonser (5-6, 4.70), who tied a career high by tossing seven innings - yielding three runs and four hits, while striking out four and walking two - in a 3-1 loss at the Chicago White Sox on July 7.
The righthander has not won since June 10, going 1-5 since winning four straight starts in May.
Minnesota has won five of its last seven games.
