Harvey dominates Phillies

Jun 24, 2013 - 12:48 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The New York Mets' final nail into the Philadelphia Phillies' coffin came in the form of a lazy fly ball in Sunday's 8-0 win, the rubber match of a three-game series.

Matt Harvey was in typical dominant form, holding a 1-0 lead with a firm grip when Juan Lagares lofted a fly ball to center field in the fifth. Ben Revere gloved it but failed to transfer the ball into his throwing hand, allowing Lagares to reach third and pave the way to a three-run rally to put the game out of reach.

Despite only throwing 72 pitches, Harvey (7-1) left the game after six innings because of a 20-minute rain delay. He gave up two hits and fanned six. He also doubled in a run.

"We're going to get really tired of talking about how good this guy has a chance to become," Mets manager Terry Collins said.

David Wright slammed four extra-hits, finishing with a home run, a triple and a pair of doubles. Wright knocked in two and scored twice.

"He's tired and beat up a little bit, yet he rises when you need him," Collins said. "I've been around some stars, this guy is as good as any of those guys were."

Eric Young, Jr. had three hits and scored two runs in the win.

John Lannan (0-2) was tagged for six runs -- four earned -- on eight hits and three walks in five-plus innings.

"I wasn't making pitches," Lannan said. "I struggled with what I wanted to do today."

The Mets grabbed an early lead when Young and Daniel Murphy started the game with back-to-back singles. Young eventually scored on a Marlon Byrd sacrifice fly.

Chase Utley led off the fourth inning with a double and moved to third on Michael Young's groundout to first. After Ryan Howard walked, Domonic Brown struck out and Delmon Young grounded into a fielder's choice to end the Phillies' biggest threat.

Lagares reached third on Revere's misplay to start the fifth inning and scored when Harvey scorched a double to right-center field. Eric Young, Jr. scored Harvey with a double to the left-field corner, then scored when Wright ripped a double to right to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.

Lagares' double scored Josh Satin and Omar Quintanilla's sac fly scored John Buck in the sixth to give the Mets a 6-0 lead.

The Mets scored again in the seventh when Byrd's double glanced off Revere's outstretched glove to score Wright, who crushed a one-out triple.

Wright pulled a long fly ball into the left-field seats to cap the scoring in the ninth inning.
