Koehler, Marlins eye another victory over Twins
Jun 26, 2013 - 12:39 PM (Sports Network) - Right-hander Tom Koehler can win a second straight decision and give the Miami Marlins a series sweep on Wednesday, when they host the Minnesota Twins at Marlins Park to wrap up a two-game interleague series. The Marlins won Tuesday's opener, 4-2, when Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Derek Dietrich added a solo homer for the Marlins, winners of two straight and four of five overall.
"Ozuna has gotten big hits for us, and did again tonight. He's doing a great job and giving us exactly what we needed in the middle of that order," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond.
Joe Mauer had two hits and scored a run and Josh Willingham drove in a run for the Twins, who have dropped three of four on their five-game road trip.
Kevin Correia (6-5) suffered the loss for the Twins, yielding just two runs on five hits in six innings. The righty, who lost for the first time since May 20, struck out two and walked two.
Koehler, who'll turn 27 on Saturday, dropped his initial five decisions of 2013 while making seven starts and six relief appearances.
He broke through for his first win of the season - and his big-league career - on June 20 at San Francisco, where he allowed just a run on three hits in seven innings of a 2-1 defeat of the Giants.
Previously this season, he'd given up 49 hits and 31 runs in 53 innings.
Koehler made one start and seven relief outings with the Marlins last season and losing his lone decision. He has never faced the Twins.
For the Twins, lefty Scott Diamond gets back to his comfort zone in 2013, which has been starting on the road.
He's won three of four decisions in six starts away from home this season, compared to a 2-5 record in seven home appearances.
Diamond dropped a 7-0 decision at Washington in his last road outing, but he'd previously beaten the Chicago White Sox, Detroit and Boston to pick up his first three victories of the season.
He has never faced the Marlins.
The Twins won five of the first eight games played between the teams since they first met in 2002. The teams split a doubleheader in April in Minnesota.
