Athletics face Rangers, aim to snap seven-game losing streak

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Oakland Athletics aim to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak when they face the Texas Rangers in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.

It was a disappointing start to the second half for the Athletics, who were swept in a four-game series by Minnesota Twins.

In Sunday's series finale, Justin Morneau hit a game-tying homer in the eighth inning and Joe Mauer hit a walk-off single in the ninth as the Twins completed the sweep with a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Oakland, which has dropped a season-low four games under .500, have not dropped eight straight since May 21-29, 2005.

The A's look to snap out of the doldrums behind Dallas Braden (1-3, 6.08 ERA), who will be recalled from Class AAA Sacramento. The lefthander made three relief appearances for the A's from June 27-July 1.

He will be opposed by Jamey Wright (2-2, 5.55), who yielded two runs and five hits in six innings in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on July 4. The righthander has allowed 16 runs in just 12 innings in two career starts vs. the A's.

The Rangers have split their last six contests.
