Mariners host Orioles, look to continue winning ways
Jul 16, 2007 - 1:04 PM Baltimore (41-50) at Seattle (51-38) 10:05 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) - One of this season's surprise teams, the Seattle Mariners look to continue their recent run of success Monday when they face the Baltimore Orioles.
Though the Mariners dropped Sunday's series finale against the Detroit Tigers, the team is 16-6 over its last 22 games and has won 25 of 38 overall.
Seattle starter Horacio Ramirez (4-2, 6.47 ERA) will take the mound for the first time since going on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis on May 25. In eight starts this season, the lefthander has allowed six or more runs three times.
Brian Burres (4-3, 4.19) gets the start for the Orioles, who have won three straight. The lefthander, who also has pitched out of the Baltimore bullpen this year, is making his first start since being thumped by the Chicago White Sox on July 5.
Burres allowed seven runs and six hits - two home runs - in just 1 1/3 innings during the 9-7 loss to Chicago.
Seattle leadoff man Ichiro Suzuki left Sunday's game against the Tigers after being hit in the right leg by a pitch from Justin Verlander. The reigning All-Star Game MVP is listed as day-to-day and his status for Monday is uncertain.
