LHP Gabbard looks to stay unbeaten at home vs. Royals

BOSTON (Ticker) - Kason Gabbard takes the hill as the Boston Red Sox look to get healthy against the lowly Kansas City Royals on Monday in the opener of a three-game series.

Gabbard (2-0, 4.87 ERA) is unbeaten at Fenway in his young career, posting a 3-0 mark, including two wins this season.

In his last start, the 25-year-old lefthander yielded two runs and three hits in a season-high 6 1/3 innings against Detroit on July 7.

Boston, which has lost five of its last seven, is coming off a four-game split here against Toronto.

The Royals are coming off a series in which they lost two of three games from Cleveland. To make matters worse, they have lost 12 of their last 15 visits to Boston.

Brian Bannister (5-5, 3.71), who has won five of his last seven starts, get the ball for the Royals. In his last start, the righthander allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings in a 4-0 loss to Seattle on July 4.
