Looper faces old team in new role as Cardinals visit Marlins
Jul 16, 2007 - 1:20 PM St Louis (41-47) at Florida (44-48) 7:05 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) - Braden Looper used to close games for the Florida Marlins. On Monday, the righthander will face his former team as a starter for the first time.
Looper (6-7, 4.72 ERA) takes the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals as they open a three-game series with the Marlins.
The 32-year-old recorded 46 saves in four seasons for the Marlins from 1999-2003 and won a world championship with the team in his final season there. Now Looper will look to beat his former team and help the Cardinals to just their third win in the last seven games.

On Sunday, Albert Pujols hit two of the Cardinals six homers in a 10-2 win over Philadelphia. Pujols has homered in three straight games after going a career-worst 22 games without a blast.
Byung-Hyun Kim (4-4, 4.94) takes the mound for the Marlins. The Korean righthander won for the first time since May 28 by limiting the San Diego Padres to two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings on July 5.
Miguel Cabrera has hit three homers in the past two days, including pair of solo shots in a 5-3 win over Washington on Sunday.
