Puig's clutch hit sends Dodgers to sixth straight win

Jun 28, 2013 - 5:55 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - After taking a hard fall on Chase Utley's home run in the top of the seventh inning, Yasiel Puig got off the mat and put matters in his own hands to help the Dodgers to their sixth straight win.

Puig hit the go-ahead two-run single into left field in the bottom of the frame and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4, to open a four-game series.

"As long as the team is winning, I don't want to take full credit," Puig said. "We're a pretty happy group, especially during this winning streak."

Utley's solo blast off Zack Greinke went to right field with two outs in the seventh to give the Phillies a 4-3 edge. Puig jumped at the wall and his left elbow collided with the top of it before he tumbled to the ground.

In the bottom portion, Justin De Fratus (2-2) walked A.J. Ellis. Juan Uribe reached first on a bunt hit and the runners advanced on Nick Punto's sac bunt, which led to pinch-hitter Hanley Ramirez being intentionally walked.

After Skip Schumaker struck out, Puig grounded an 0-2 pitch into left field to give LA the lead.

Matt Kemp singled off Antonio Bastardo to start the home eighth. After a pair of stolen bases, Kemp scored on Ellis' sacrifice fly to right.

"We're playing the game the right way. We're not putting pressure on ourselves," Kemp said.

Greinke (5-2) allowed 12 hits and fanned five over seven innings. Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth for his seventh save.

Jonathan Pettibone threw the first six innings for the Phillies, who were coming off back-to-back wins in San Diego.

"Jonathan settled in after that first inning," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He retired his last 15 batters. He gave us a chance to win. We had guys on base all night. We couldn't get the big hit."

Utley had three hits and drove in two runs. Delmon Young went 4-for-4 and Ben Revere added three hits.

Kemp and Andre Ethier had back-to-back doubles in the opening inning to help the Dodgers produce a 3-0 lead, but Domonic Brown led off the second with his 21st homer of the year, a shot to right-center.

The Phillies tied the game in the fifth on RBI singles from Utley and Jimmy Rollins.
