Astros aim to end three-game slide

Jul 16, 2007 - 1:38 PM Houston (39-53) at Washington (37-54) 7:05 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros will try to avoid their fourth straight loss when they visit the Washington Nationals in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.

Houston hands the ball to Woody Williams (4-10, 5.34 ERA), who has not won at home since May 20. In his last outing, Williams gave up three runs and five hits through 7 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the New York Mets.

The righthanded Williams is 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA in five career starts against the Nationals, who won three of four games from the Astros here last season.

Williams has posted a lackluster 1-7 record in 11 starts away from Minute Maid Park this season.

Washington will counter with Mike Bacsik (2-6, 5.20), who was tagged in his last outing. He surrendered a season-high six runs in five frames of a 6-2 setback to Milwaukee on July 6.

Bacsik will be making his first appearence against the Astros since tossing two scoreless innings as a member of the Mets in 2002.

The Nationals have dropped 17 of their last 25 games.
