Brewers seek third straight win in series opener

Jul 16, 2007 - 1:48 PM Arizona (49-44) at Milwaukee (51-40) 8:05 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers look to extend their winning streak to three games when they open a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.

Dave Bush (7-7, 4.86 ERA) takes the ball for Milwaukee with the hopes of repeating his last performance. The 6-2 righthander yielded one run in seven innings at Washington on July 6.

Bush is undefeated in two starts with a 3.38 ERA against Arizona, which has lost five straight road games.

The Diamondbacks counters with rookie Micah Owings (5-4, 4.84), who has not won in his last four outings. He was tagged for six runs and six hits in 4 2/3 frames at Cincinnati in his last start.

Owings, who is also winless in his last two road games, will be making his first career appearence vs. the Brewers, who are 8-7 against the National League West Division this season.

Prior to winning their last two games against the Colorado Rockies, the Brewers had dropped eight of 11 contests.

Milwaukee struggled in its last two games as well but persevered thanks to some clutch late-game hitting. Tony Graffanino blooped a pinch-hit game-winning RBI single Saturday to lift the Brewers to a 2-1 victory in 10 innings.

Less than 24 hours later, Kevin Mench plated the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh inning of Milwaukee's 4-3 triumph.

Arizona also has trudged through a stretch of bad baseball, dropping 12 of its last 17 contests.
