Sosa returns from DL as Mets open road trip vs. Padres

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The New York Mets are about to get another pitcher back.

Jorge Sosa will be activated from the disabled list to make the start Monday when the Mets open a three-game road series against the San Diego Padres.

Oliver Perez returned on Sunday after being on the DL since July 2 and tossed six solid innings as the Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2.

A day later, Sosa (7-3, 3.92 ERA), who has been out with a hamstring injury since July 1, makes his return for the Mets, who have won three of their last four contests.

Sosa's last start was on June 30, when he left with the injury despite recording the win in a 5-3 triumph over Philadelphia.

Sosa will be opposed by 44-year-old David Wells (4-5, 4.31), who has just one win in his last six starts. Wells is pitching under appeal of his seven-game suspension he earned for throwing a tantrum when arguing balls and strikes on July 7.

After going 5-6 on an 11-game road trip, the Mets returned home this past weekend and won three of four contests against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Padres have struggled of late, dropping six of their last nine games.

After dropping the first two contests of their three-game series at Arizona this past weekend, San Diego posted a 4-0 triumph Sunday to salvage the series finale.

Justin Germano worked 6 1/3 solid innings to record the win and Brian Giles had three hits for the Padres, who trail the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers (52-40) by one game in the National League West division.
