Swisher lifts Tribe past White Sox
Jun 29, 2013 - 7:19 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Nick Swisher's go-ahead home run capped a four- run rally in the top of the ninth and the Cleveland Indians took both games of a doubleheader with a 9-8 victory over the Chicago White Sox.White Sox closer Addison Reed (3-1) gave up singles to Ryan Raburn and pinch- hitter Asdrubal Cabrera to start the ninth. With runners at the corners, Michael Bourn then hit a blooper to right center, plating Raburn.
Up next was pinch-hitter Jason Giambi. On a 1-2 count, Reed threw a wild pitch, allowing Cabrera to score. Giambi then flew out deep into center field, but got the tying run to third. Jason Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly to bring Bourn home and tie the game.
Swisher then hammered a 3-2 fastball that sailed into the stands in right.
"I didn't execute my pitches, I left the ball over the plate and up in the zone. They made me pay for it," said Reed.
Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his sixth save. Matt Langwell (1-0) gave up two runs in the eighth but picked up the win.
The Indians outslugged the White Sox, 19-10, in the opener of the twin bill.
"To come out here and pull two games off is great. We're a never-die type of team, we're scrappy and we're just going to find a way to get it done," said Swisher.
Quintana gave up three straight singles to Bourn, Mike Aviles and Kipnis, the latter of which drove in a run, to start the game. Next was Swisher, who drew a walk to load the bases.
After Mark Reynolds struck out, Carlos Santana forced a walk, allowing Aviles to score. Kipnis scored on a passed ball, before Swisher scored on Michael Brantley's sacrifice fly.
In the home half, Alejandro De Aza singled and stole second, Adam Dunn drew a walk and Jeff Keppinger singled to right, loading the bases. Gillaspie's sac fly plated De Aza, putting Chicago on the board.
In the fifth, De Aza and Alexei Ramirez connected on back-to-back one-out singles. Following a strikeout by Dunn, Keppinger delivered a base hit up the middle, scoring De Aza.
Reynolds crushed the first pitch given to him for a homer to begin the sixth.
De Aza delivered a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the inning to bring the White Sox within one.
After Ramirez grounded out, Carlos Carrasco was replaced by Rich Hill, but he gave up a two-RBI single to Dunn to give Chicago the lead.
The White Sox added two runs in the home half. De Aza walked to lead off and stole second. Ramirez then brought him home with a double to right center. After Dunn struck out, Jeff Keppinger ripped an RBI triple to right.
