Jordan makes big league debut versus Mets
Jun 29, 2013 - 2:23 PM (Sports Network) - Washington right-hander Taylor Jordan makes his major league debut this afternoon when the Nationals resume their three-game series against the New York Mets. The Nationals optioned first baseman Chris Marrero to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for Jordan, who is a combined 9-1 with a 1.00 ERA in 14 starts between Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg. The 24-year-old was 7-0 at the Double-A level.
Dillon Gee will try to bounce back from a rough start. Good thing for the Mets the right-hander will be facing the Nationals.
Gee was charged with eight hits and six runs -- five earned -- over five innings of a no-decision against the Phillies a week ago. He gave up three homers, including two to Ryan Howard.
He has shined, though, in his career against the Nationals with a 5-1 mark and a 2.70 ERA. That includes a stellar 2-0 record with a 0.71 ERA in two games this season. Gee has given up 12 hits and a run over 12 2/3 innings versus Washington in 2013. He beat the Nats at Citi Field on April 21 and tossed seven frames in a triumph at Nationals Park on June 5.
Last night, Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run double to tie the game in the eighth inning and Ian Desmond drove in the winning run in the ninth in Washington's 6-4 victory.
Desmond also hit a solo home run while Kurt Suzuki added an RBI for the Nationals, who have won three of four.
Ross Detwiler gave up three runs -- two earned -- on six hits over five innings, while Tyler Clippard (6-1) earned the win for a scoreless inning of relief.
"Everybody was obviously happy, but that only lasts a couple of hours and then we're back at it tomorrow morning," Detwiler said.
Josh Satin went 3-for-3 with two RBI and David Wright had two hits and a run scored for the Mets, who had won three of four coming in.
Matt Harvey tossed seven strong innings for the Mets, giving up just three hits and a run while striking out 11. Bobby Parnell (5-4) was tagged with the loss for giving up a pair of runs in the ninth inning.
"You look at that lineup and it's pretty stacked," Harvey said of the Nats.
The 2013 season series is even at 3-3. The Nats won the 2012 set, 14-4.
