Rays get Price back in meeting with Astros

Jul 2, 2013 - 2:55 PM (Sports Network) - Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner David Price returns from an extended stint on the disabled list on Tuesday night when the Tampa Bay Rays visit Minute Maid Park for the second of four games with the Houston Astros.

Price hasn't pitched since a 2 1/3-inning stint against Boston on May 15, when he allowed four runs on five hits.

He was placed on the 15-day disabled list the following day with a left triceps strain.

In two rehab starts at Single-A Charlotte, Price allowed one earned run in four hits in 7 1/3 innings, picking up one victory in his first minor-league appearances since 2009.

The southpaw won his lone career start against Houston.

Price is opposed by veteran lefty Erik Bedard, who's won three of four decisions since starting the season at 0-2.

The 34-year-old Canadian was a 4-3 winner over St. Louis in his most recent start on June 26 after allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings.

Bedard won seven times in 24 starts with Pittsburgh last season before signing a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Astros on Jan. 21.

In 23 career meetings with the Rays, Bedard is 11-5 with a 3.32 earned run average.

On Monday, Matt Moore tossed seven scoreless innings as the Rays blanked the Astros, 12-0.

Moore (11-3) allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out eight to win his third straight start. Cesar Ramos worked two perfect innings in relief.

Sean Rodriguez went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI, Ryan Roberts hit a two-run homer and a solo shot, and Sam Fuld added three hits and a pair of RBI for the Rays, winners in six of their last eight games.

"We know everybody can hit on this team, and to see the guys come out and do it tonight, it was awesome to be a part of," Roberts said.

Dallas Keuchel (4-5) was charged with five runs on eight hits and five walks over 4 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Tampa Bay swept a three-game series with the Astros in their last set of meetings in 2011. The teams entered this week tied, 6-6, in their all-time series.
