Dunn's 9th-inning blast sends ChiSox over O's
Jul 5, 2013 - 12:23 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Adam Dunn's one-out homer in the bottom of the ninth inning sent Chicago past Baltimore, 3-2, in the rubber match of a three- game series.Tommy Hunter (3-2) retired Dayan Viciedo on a fly to right before serving up the deciding blast to Dunn -- his 23rd of the season.
Dunn, whose error in the eighth inning allowed Baltimore to tie the game, nonetheless finished 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for the White Sox, who had dropped five in a row prior to winning this set.
Addison Reed (4-1) tossed a scoreless top of the ninth for the win.
"We're not going to give up and not give our all when we're out there. We're going to keep playing. our pitching has been real good and our hitting is real good right now. We just keep playing," Reed said.
Matt Wieters and Nick Markakis knocked in a run each for the Orioles, who had won four straight prior to arriving in Chicago's south side.
Chicago broke through against O's starter Zach Britton in the sixth. Alexei Ramirez doubled to lead off and scored on an Alex Rios single. Rios, who took second on the throw home, then scored two batters later on a Dunn base hit.
The O's finally countered in the eighth. With runners on second and third and one down, Wieters reached when Dunn failed to catch his fly that allowed Brian Roberts to score, then Markakis lofted a ball to center to plate Nate McLouth.
"I felt like on hit was going to determine this game, and it did for their side. I feel like we easily could have done the same." said Britton.

White Sox hurler Jose Quintana tossed seven scoreless frames, scattering two hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters. His previous career best was eight on July 5, 2012 against Texas ... Britton ended up working seven frames, allowing six hits and two runs.
