Garza hopes successful start continues

Jul 17, 2007 - 3:41 PM Detroit (54-36) at Minnesota (49-43) 8:10 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Matt Garza is looking for similar results to his first start of the season as the Minnesota Twins host the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Garza (1-0, 0.00 ERA) pitched six scoreless innings, yielding just five hits and three walks with six strikeouts in a 12-0 triumph over the Chicago White Sox on July 6.

The 23-year-old righthander has not allowed a run over eight innings this season.

The Twins are going for their fifth straight win, which would tie their longest streak of the season.

The Tigers will counter with Nate Robertson (5-6, 4.92), who recorded his first win since May 19 in his last start. The lefthander gave up four runs, four hits and four walks with two strikeouts in a 6-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox on July 8.

Robertson is 5-7 with a 4.28 ERA in 15 career games against Minnesota.

Detroit has won seven of its last nine contests and leads the Cleveland Indians by one game in the AL Central as Minnesota trails by six.
