O's try to bounce back against Rangers
Jul 9, 2013 - 2:51 PM (Sports Network) - Lefty Zach Britton gets a second crack at getting the Baltimore Orioles to 50 wins on the season Tuesday night when they host the Texas Rangers in game two of a four-game series at Camden Yards. The Orioles failed in their attempt on Monday, as Ian Kinsler had two hits including a double, and four RBI to lead the Rangers to an 8-5 win.
Elvis Andrus went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while A.J. Pierzynski, Mitch Moreland and Engel Beltre drove in one run apiece for the Rangers, who went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Derek Holland (7-4) gave up five runs -- three earned -- on 10 hits while fanning seven over 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.
"These guys were out there battling for me. I was battling for them as well," Holland said. "It's a great ball club we're going up against and we know it's going to be a tough battle this week."
Joe Nathan worked a perfect ninth to notch his 30th save of the season.
Manny Machado went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Matt Wieters clubbed a two-run homer for the Orioles, losers in four of their last five games.
Scott Feldman (0-1) was tagged for seven runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings to absorb his first loss since being sent back to the American League on July 2.
Britton, an 11-game winner as a rookie in 2011, has won just seven big-league games since - including five in 12 appearances last season and two in his initial five outings of 2013.
His most recent win came June 29 at Yankee Stadium in New York, where he scattered six hits and allowed an earned run in 5 2/3 innings of an 11-3 defeat of the Yankees.
One start since resulted in a no-decision after he allowed two runs in seven innings of Baltimore's 3-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Britton was bombed for 10 hits and six runs in a six-inning appearance on April 29 in Seattle, but has combined to give up just seven earned runs in 23 innings over his last four starts.
He won his lone career start against Texas after giving up four hits in 7 2/3 scoreless innings.
He's opposed by Texas lefty Martin Perez, who faces the Orioles for the first time in his 17th big-league outing and 11th start.
The 22-year-old was 1-4 during a 12-game stint with the Rangers last season and has made four starts in 2013 - one in May, two in June and one thus far in July.
He won by counts of 4-2 and 4-0 in the two June appearances, in which he combined to allow two runs on 11 hits in 13 2/3 innings while defeating St. Louis and Cincinnati.
He gave up an unearned run in 5 1/3 innings of a July 4 start against Seattle, but got a no-decision in a game the Rangers ultimately won, 5-4.
The Rangers won five of seven games with the Orioles in 2012 and five of six between the teams in 2011. Baltimore last won the season series, 6-4, in 2010.
