Well-traveled Durbin gets shot in the Phillies rotation

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - In a span of just over two weeks at the beginning of the season, J.D. Durbin somehow made his way through four different organizations. Based on his numbers, that's not so hard to believe.

The pitching-starved Philadelphia Phillies will give Durbin another shot at starting on Tuesday when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Durbin (0-2, 13.50 ERA) entered spring training with the Minnesota Twins, was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks and released on April 5 after allowing seven runs in 2/3 of an inning. The Boston Red Sox took a chance next, but cut the righthander before bringing him up, allowing the Phillies to claim him on April 13.

He was recalled from the minors on June 29 and allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. Philadelphia kept him around, and after three effective bullpen appearances, the 25-year-old Durbin will make his third career start.

The Dodgers will counter with Mark Hendrickson (4-4, 3.92). The lanky lefthander has bounced back and forth between the bullpen and the rotation this season, and has performed admirably in both situations.

Hendrickson made two straight starts before the All-Star Game, going 1-1 while allowing two earned runs in five innings in each contest. He got a win out of the bullpen on Saturday on the strength of two scoreless frames at San Francisco.

The Dodgers got a pair of three-run homers from Jeff Kent and Matt Kemp on Monday night and cruised to a 10-3 victory.
