Young looks to stay hot against struggling Astros

Jul 17, 2007 - 4:25 PM Houston (39-54) at Washington (38-54) 7:05 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - Dmitri Young looks to continue his hot hitting when the Washington Nationals host the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

Young delivered a decisive three-run home run here in Monday's 4-3 victory against the Astros, who have lost four straight.

A surprise contender for the National League batting title, Young is hitting .339 and has a .404 (76-for-188) average over his last 50 games.

After beginning the year in Class AAA Columbus, Tim Redding (1-1, 4.09) makes his third start of the season for the Nationals.

He won his first game since September 26, 2004 in his last start on July 8 against Milwaukee Brewers. The 29-year-old righthander allowed two runs, five hits and one walk while striking out one in six innings during the 7-2 win.

Chris Sampson (6-6, 4.25 ERA) takes the mound for the Astros and will be in search of his first win since June 8, a span of five starts in which he is 0-1 with a 6.19 ERA. This will be the first time he has faced the Nationals.

Houston has lost seven consecutive road games and 13 of the last 15 contests away from Minute Maid Park. Overall, they own the majors worst road mark at 15-32.
