Rangers resume road series against Orioles

Jul 10, 2013 - 2:54 PM (Sports Network) - Right-hander Josh Lindblom makes his fifth start in his eighth appearance of the season for the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night when they visit the Baltimore Orioles in game three of a four-game set at Camden Yards.

A veteran of 108 games and three teams since reaching the majors in 2011, Lindblom was 4-5 in 101 relief appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies in his first two seasons in the majors.

He was acquired by the Rangers in December 2012 as part of the deal that sent Michael Young to the Phillies.

Lindblom was 0-2 in four starts between May 20 and June 20 with a 5.40 earned run average in 21 2/3 innings, but has since tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in three games, picking up a single victory while trimming the ERA to 4.50.

He has never faced the Orioles.

For Baltimore, Taiwanese lefty Wei-Yin Chen comes off the disabled list for his first appearance since May 12.

The 26-year-old, who won 12 games in his initial major-league season in 2012, was 3-3 in eight starts this season, including a scoreless five-inning appearance against Minnesota on May 12.

He scattered five hits and struck out three in that game, but was placed on the 15-day DL the following day with a strained right oblique muscle.

In two rehab starts at Double-A Bowie of the Eastern League, Chen allowed four runs on nine hits in 12 innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.

He is 1-0 in his career against Texas after allowing a single earned run in 7 2/3 innings of work with a walk and five strikeouts.

On Tuesday, Adrian Beltre went 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBI to lead the Rangers over Baltimore, 8-4.

A.J. Pierzynski added two hits and an RBI and Jurickson Profar and Nelson Cruz each drove in a run for the Rangers, winners in five of their last six.

"We were having trouble driving in runs and all of a sudden Adrian started driving them in and everybody started relaxing," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Now we're putting runs on the board. I hope it can continue."

Martin Perez (3-1) gave up four runs -- two earned -- on six hits over six- plus innings.

Manny Machado hit a solo homer and J.J. Hardy drove in a pair of runs for the Orioles, losers in five of their last six games.

Zach Britton (2-3) was tagged for five runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings to absorb the loss.

The Rangers won five of seven games with the Orioles in 2012 and five of six between the teams in 2011. Baltimore last won the season series, 6-4, in 2010.
