Orioles, Blue Jays battle for series victory

Jul 14, 2013 - 11:33 AM (Sports Network) - After splitting the first two contests of a three-game set, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles will battle it out on Sunday afternoon in a rubber match at Camden Yards.

Down 3-2 in the sixth inning on Saturday, Toronto took the lead on a two-out, two-run single by J.P. Arencibia, and after adding three more insurance runs in the seventh went on to win, 7-3.

All but one of the Blue Jays' starting nine recorded a hit on the afternoon. Edwin Encarnacion belted his 25th homer in the first inning, while Adam Lind, Colby Rasmus ad Maicer Izturis all enjoyed multi-hit games.

Rookie starter Terry Redmond lasted just four innings, allowing three runs while striking out six, but five Toronto relievers completed the rest of the game without surrendering another run. Aaron Loup (3-3) earned the win, and Casey Janssen recorded his 18th save.

"The bullpen came in and there's not much to say other than they've really been lights out the whole year and continue to pitch that way," Arencibia said.

Jason Hammel (7-6) was roughed up over six innings, yielding 10 hits, two walks and six earned runs in the loss.

Chris Davis continued his torrid first half despite the loss by crushing his Major League-leading 36th home run of the season, his third straight game with a longball. The only player in American League history with more homers before the All-Star break is Reggie Jackson, who hit 37 in 1969.

Adam Jones also left the yard for the Orioles, his 18th of the season.

Josh Johnson will take the hill for the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. The 29- year-old right-hander has had a disappointing first season with his new club, as he sits with a 1-4 record and a 4.62 ERA.

The good news for Johnson is that he's pitched much better since his return from the disabled list in early June, boasting a 3.54 ERA over the last 40 2/3 innings, although his improvement has not been reflected in his win total.

Johnson was the hard-luck loser his last time out, allowing just three hits and two earned runs over seven innings of work on July 9 versus the Indians.

For the Orioles, Scott Feldman will make his third start since being traded from the Cubs earlier this month. He's 7-7 with a 3.87 ERA overall this season, but his first 11 1/3 innings with Baltimore has not gone smoothly (0-1, 7.15 ERA).

Feldman was touched up for his worst start of the season on July 8, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of work in a loss to the Rangers.

"The sixth inning was a rough one," said Feldman, who gave up just two runs in the first five innings of his last start before failing to make it out of the sixth. "Got to go back and look at the tape and see what kind of adjustments I need to make for next time."

Feldman has struggled against the Blue Jays in his career, going 0-4 in 12 appearances with a 6.11 ERA.

Toronto has won five of its past six versus Baltimore.
