Capuano, Brewers hope to keep streak alive, face Diamondbacks
Jul 18, 2007 - 2:45 PM Arizona (49-46) at Milwaukee (53-40) 8:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) - To continue their recent tear, the Milwaukee Brewers turn to Chris Capuano.
Capuano and the Brewers aim for their fifth straight victory when they face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
On the strength of pitching by Claudio Vargas and the bullpen, Milwaukee rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to beat Arizona, 3-2, on Tuesday.
The fourth straight win leaves the Brewers two wins away from their longest winning stretch, a run of six in a row from May 4-9. They also won five in a row on June 18-23.
The Brewers now turn to Capuano (5-6, 5.16 ERA), who is 0-6 with a 7.74 ERA in his last nine starts. The lefthander was tagged for five runs and six hits in three innings but did not figure in the decision in a 10-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
It is a far cry from his first seven starts of the year, when the 26-year-old went 5-0 with a 2.31 ERA. Capuano is 1-2 in four career starts vs. Arizona.
The Diamondbacks, who have lost three in a row, counter with Doug Davis (6-10, 4.19). The lefthander won his last start, allowing two runs and five hits in six innings in an 8-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday.
The win gives Davis a chance to put back-to-back wins together for just the second time in 2007.
Davis, who pitched for Milwaukee from 2003-2006, has never faced his former team.
