De La Rosa aims for some home cooking against Marlins
Jul 24, 2013 - 2:31 PM (Sports Network) - Jorge De La Rosa aims to continue his success at Coors Field when the left-hander takes the mound for the Colorado Rockies against the Miami Marlins in the third test of a four-game set on Wednesday.De La Rosa has fashioned a 5-1 mark with a 2.96 ERA in nine home starts this season. Since he became a Rockie in 2008, he has gone 30-12 with a 4.41 ERA at Coors Field.
Most recently, De La Rosa is 2-1 over his last six starts with his only loss in that span coming July 5 at Arizona. He threw six innings in a no-decision against the Cubs Friday.
Over his career, De La Rosa is 3-4 with a 6.07 ERA in nine games (8 starts) versus the Marlins, but is on a two-game winning streak against them and hasn't allowed more than two runs in each of his last four starts.
Jacob Turner, who has yet to win on the road in his career, counters for the Marlins. The righty is 0-5 in nine road starts, including an 0-2 mark in five contests in 2013. That includes a 2-0 defeat at Milwaukee on Friday when he walked four batters and allowed a pair of solo homers, the only runs he gave up, over five-plus innings.
Prior to his last start, he had allowed just one home run in eight previous appearances. This will be his first time facing the Rockies.
Christian Yelich had three hits and a pair of RBI in his major league debut to help lead the Miami Marlins to a 4-2 victory last night.
"You can think about it and dream about it all you want, but going out there and actually living it and being apart of something like this is pretty special and something I'll definitely never forget," said Yelich on his debut.
Adeiny Hechavarria went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Marlins, who have won the first two tilts of this four-game set.
Jose Fernandez (6-5) picked up the win after pitching a strong seven innings where he only allowed two runs on five hits. The rookie right-hander was making his first start since pitching in the All-Star Game. He recorded eight strikeouts with two walks.
The Marlins plated three runs against Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin (9-5), who lasted seven innings. He gave up eight hits while registering four strikeouts in the loss.
Todd Helton hit a solo home run, while DJ LeMahieu stroked a triple and scored a run for Colorado, which has lost four of its last seven games.
"Probably a bit of a funk right now. Like I said, it's a talented offensive club and I feel like we will get rolling, but we've got to get out there and do it," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss on his offense.
The Marlins are 28-45 all-time at Coors Field and have not had a winning season in Denver since 2009 (2-1).
