Tigers power past White Sox
Jul 25, 2013 - 3:40 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Anibal Sanchez threw six scoreless innings and the Detroit Tigers got homers from three different players in a 6-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.Prince Fielder cranked a three-run blast in the opening inning, Austin Jackson a solo shot in the second and Torii Hunter another solo one in the fifth, as the Tigers won their fourth in a row.
Sanchez (8-7) allowed six hits and fanned five to snap a two-start skid.
On Thursday, the AL Central leaders will go their first four-game road sweep of the White Sox since June 20-22, 1980.
All of Detroit's homer came off John Danks (2-8), who surrendered 11 hits and six runs over seven frames for the he bottom-dwellers in the AL Central.
The White Sox, who had 11 hits, fell 20 games under .500 for the first time since Sept. 26, 2007.
"You can smatter them around. I think that's what good pitchers do. For us, we're going to have to find a way to get them consecutively to put more pressure on them," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of his team going 1-for-10 with men in scoring position.
Austin Jackson singled to left and with one out Matt Tuiasosopo walked ahead of Fielder's homer to right field.
After the White Sox stranded a runner at third in the opening inning, Jackson went deep to left in the second.
"That's important because he's the catalyst for us," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said of Jackson.
Hunter homered to left in the fifth, an inning that saw the White Sox strand two runners in scoring position.
Alex Avila singled in Don Kelly in the sixth before the White Sox scored two late runs -- on an Alexei Ramirez RBI single in the seventh and Dayan Viciedo's homer off Luke Putkonen to begin the ninth.
