Belisle looks to lead Reds to fourth straight win

Jul 19, 2007 - 2:10 PM Cincinnati (40-55) at Florida (45-50) 7:05 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds aim for their fourth straight victory when they square off with the Florida Marlins in the opener of a four-game series Thursday.

Matt Belisle (5-6, 5.02 ERA), who is winless in his last seven starts, will take the mound as the Reds look to win for the ninth time in their last 12 contests.

The 27-year-old Belisle did not factor into the decision after giving up just one run and nine hits with six strikeouts over seven innings in a 2-1 loss to the New York Mets on Saturday.

Belisle will be opposed by Sergio Mitre (4-4, 2.81), who looks to record his third consecutive win.

A five-year veteran, Mitre pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and six hits with three strikeouts in a 5-2 triumph over the Washington Nationals on Saturday.

Mitre has lasted at least six innings in his previous five outings.

The lowly Reds outlasted the Atlanta Braves, 5-4, in 15 innings Wednesday to complete a surprising three-game series sweep. Brandon Phillips snapped a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the top of the 15th frame for Cincinnati.

Conversely, Florida looks to rebound from a disappointing 6-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Wednesday's series finale.
