Jimenez, Rockies look to continue rolling against Nationals

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- To continue their dominance over the Washington Nationals, the Colorado Rockies turn to rookie Ubaldo Jimenez.

Jimenez and the Rockies aim for their fourth straight win when they open a three-game series against the Nationals on Thursday.

Colorado beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3, on Wednesday to complete a three-game road sweep. It was their 10th win in 14 games after suffering a season-high eight-game losing streak.

The Rockies have had even better success vs. the Nationals, winning eight straight - all in 2006 - while scoring 78 runs in the process. Colorado has had similar results here, winning five straight contests at RFK Stadium.

Jimenez (NR), who was called up from Class AAA Colorado Springs on Monday, makes his first start of the season. The 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic will be making his third major league appearance and just his second career start.

The Nationals counter with fellow rookie Matt Chico (4-6, 4.57 ERA) who is looking to rebound from a rough start his last outing. Against the Florida Marlins last Saturday, Chico allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings of a 5-2 loss.

The lefthander - who has never faced the Rockies - has been excellent at home, going 4-1 in 10 starts.
