Young takes mound against Phillies

Jul 19, 2007 - 2:27 PM Philadelphia (47-47) at San Diego (52-41) 10:05 pm EDT

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - Two young, All-Star pitchers will get the start when the San Diego Padres host the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a four-game series Thursday.

Chris Young (8-3, 1.97 ERA) has not dropped a decision in over two months. The 6-10 righthander, who has not lost since May 12, has posted a 4-0 record with a 1.14 ERA over his last 10 starts.

The 28-year-old Young pitched six innings, yielding just one run and two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in a 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The Padres have won three of their last four games and trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by one game in the NL West.

The Phillies will counter with Cole Hamels (11-4, 3.83), who will go for his third straight win.

Hamels gave up four runs and eight hits with two walks over six innings in a 10-4 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Philadelphia will try to avoid its fourth lost in five contests.
