Orioles try for another win versus Mariners

Aug 3, 2013 - 1:20 PM (Sports Network) - After slugging it out in the first game of this three-game series, the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners will battle again at Camden Yards on Saturday.

On Friday night, the Orioles got the better of the Mariners in an offensive game in which seven home runs were hit. Nate McClouth launched a grand slam in the 11-8 win for the Orioles. Chris Davis went 1-for-4 and hit his MLB-leading 40th home run of the season while Ryan Flaherty also homered and Adam Jones went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Chris Tillman earned his 14th win of the season despite allowing six runs in 5 1/3 innings while Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 38th save.

Baltimore has won three of its last four games and is one of three teams leading the wild card race.

Aaron Harang took the loss for Seattle, his 10th of the season, by allowing seven runs over five innings.

Kendrys Morales went 4-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBI while Michael Morse, Michael Saunders and Humberto Quintero also went deep for the Mariners.

Seattle has lost four straight.

Making just his fourth start of the season for Seattle will be Erasmo Ramirez when he takes the mound on Saturday.

Ramirez pitched in 16 games and made eight starts last season but an injury to his triceps before the regular season started kept him off the field. He then went on to pitch in Triple-A before getting called back up to the major league club on July 11 to make a start against the Red Sox.

The right-hander still seems to be trying to find his footing since the call up. Though he has a 2-0 record in his three starts, Ramirez has an ERA of 7.71 and has allowed 21 hits and eight walks in 16 1/3 innings of work.

His last start was arguably his best as Ramirez lasted a season-high six innings while allowing four runs and striking out a season best six batters against Minnesota.

Making his sixth start of the season in a Baltimore uniform will be Scott Feldman, who takes the ball from manager Buck Showalter on Saturday.

Feldman was traded from the Cubs to Baltimore on July 2 and since switching teams and leagues he has not looked like the same pitcher. In Chicago, Feldman was 7-6 with an ERA of 3.46. In five starts with the Orioles, the right-hander has gone 2-2 with an ERA over 5.00.

Feldman was off his game in his last start when he allowed four runs over just five innings of work in a 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. The start was the shortest by Feldman since April 11 when he lasted just 4 1/3 innings against San Francisco.

In his career, Feldman has split the 10 decisions he has factored in against Seattle. In all he has appeared in 26 games against the Mariners, with 12 of those outings coming as starts. In that time Feldman has earned a 4.05 ERA.

The Orioles and Mariners have split four meetings.
