Pirates host Astros in battle of struggling teams

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates look to put an end to their post-All-Star-break blues when they host the Houston Astros on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.

The Pirates are winless since the All-Star break and have lost a season-high six consecutive games.

Pittsburgh will turn to Tom Gorzelanny (9-4, 3.24 ERA), who has been the team's best starter this year. However, the lefthander has had trouble with the Astros, posting a 1-3 record and 4.84 ERA in four career starts against the team.

Roy Oswalt (8-6, 3.90) gets the start for the Astros, who have lost eight of 11 games. The staff ace actually pitched in relief on Tuesday, recording the final out of the seventh inning during a 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Oswalt has solid career numbers against the Pirates, going 10-5 with a 2.67 ERA in 19 starts and one relief appearance.

Houston slugger Carlos Lee is 5-for-11 with two home runs and five RBI during his last three games.
