Greinke, Dodgers roll past Rays

Aug 11, 2013 - 1:38 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and Zack Greinke continued his recent dominance at home as the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-0, at Dodger Stadium.

An incredible comeback on Friday night vaulted the Dodgers to a victory in the series opener, and the team picked up their 13th win in 15 games on Saturday while sending the Rays to their fourth straight loss.

Greinke (10-3) worked around six hits to throw 6 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out seven while walking just one and moved to 6-1 in 10 home starts this season, where he has a 2.32 ERA.

"It wasn't perfect but I made some good pitches," said Greinke. "Mixed it up a lot, more than usual. That was the plan tonight, stay with it and it worked well."

Nick Punto had a pair of RBI, A.J. Ellis had a sacrifice fly and Skip Schumaker finished 4-for-4 in the win.

A day after blowing a three-run lead in the ninth, the Rays managed just six hits and received only four innings out of starter Roberto Hernandez (6-12). He was charged with all five runs on eight hits.

"I don't want to say it's a concern," said Rays outfielder Wil Myers about the team's recent slide. "We had the best July in all of baseball, one of the best July's of all-time. We've just hit a little skid right here, but we're looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow."

Gonzalez smacked his 16th homer of the season in the first inning, a two-run shot which opened an early Dodgers lead that would only mount in the coming innings.

Greinke worked a walk to start the third and Carl Crawford followed by lacing a double down the right-field line. Punto then plated both runners with a base hit through the middle, and with three straight singles to begin the fourth, the Dodgers took a 5-0 lead on Ellis' sac fly.

The Rays had chances off Greinke, but couldn't generate the timely hit. They were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Once Greinke exited with one out and one on in the seventh, the Rays failed to generate another hit. J.P. Howell got the final two outs of the inning and Chris Withrow tossed two perfect frames to secure the win.

Game Notes
