Litsch gets start against Mariners
Jul 20, 2007 - 3:07 PM Seattle (53-39) at Toronto (46-49) 7:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- Rookie Jesse Litsch will take the mound as the Toronto Blue Jays host the Seattle Mariners in the opener of a three-game series Friday.
Litsch (2-3, 4.02 ERA) has allowed just one earned run over 13 2/3 innings in his previous two starts.
The 22-year-old righthander pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up just one run and nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts in a 2-1 triumph over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.
The Blue Jays avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees on Thursday with a 3-2 victory.
The Mariners will counter with Miguel Batista (9-7, 4.38), who has not given up more than three earned runs in an outing since June 8.
The Dominican righthander is 3-3 with a 2.29 ERA in that span, which includes six starts and one relief appearance.
Batista yielded just one run and five hits with two walks and six strikeouts over six innings in a 6-4 win over the Detroit Tigers last Saturday.
Seattle has won four of its last five contests on the road.
