Brewers host Giants, Bonds
Jul 20, 2007 - 3:35 PM San Francisco (39-54) at Milwaukee (54-41) 8:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- One has to wonder how much playing time San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds will get against the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend.
As the teams kick off a three-game series Friday, Bonds finds himself a lot closer to Hank Aaron's all-time home run mark of 755. The 22-year veteran homered twice in Thursday's loss to the Chicago Cubs to up his career home run total to 753.
Bonds did not start any of the previous three games prior to his 71st career multi-homer game Thursday. The Giants obviously would like to see Bonds tie and break the record at AT&T Park, leading to speculation that he'll get more rest this weekend before the team heads home to begin a six-game homestand Monday.
Bonds has six blasts and is a .351 (20-for-57) hitter for his career at Miller Park.
Noah Lowry (9-7, 3.50 ERA) takes the mound for the Giants on Friday. After winning three consecutive starts, he lost his last outing on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers after allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings during a 5-3 defeat.
The lefthander lost his only appearance against the Brewers this season, giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings during a 5-4 loss.
Jeff Suppan (8-8, 4.90) will get the start for the Brewers, who have won five of six. The righthander is 5-2 with a 4.13 ERA in nine starts at home this season.
In their first meeting with the Giants this season, the Brewers swept a three-game series here in June.
