Perez looks to build on solid start to second half
Jul 20, 2007 - 3:42 PM NY Mets (53-42) at LA Dodgers (54-42) 10:40 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Oliver Perez takes the mound for the New York Mets on Friday looking to produce another solid performance after a brief stint on the disabled list.
Perez faces Brett Tomko and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday as he looks for his second straight win in the second game of a four-game series.
The 25-year-old Perez (8-6, 3.13 ERA) came off the disabled list on Sunday and allowed two runs and six hits in six innings in a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The lefthander had been sidelined since July 2 with lower back stiffness.
The lefthander will also be trying to give the Mets' bullpen a much needed break. Tom Glavine lasted just two innings Thursday, but New York posted a season high in runs to post a 13-9 victory in the opener.
David Wright drove in two runs and Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado and Ramon Castro all homered.
Perez will be opposed by Brett Tomko (2-7, 5.88), who has returned to the rotation after spending two months in the bullpen.
The righthander was decent in his first start in place of the injured Randy Wolf on Sunday. Tomko allowed three runs and four hits in five innings against the San Francisco Giants to notch his first win since May 9.
Tomko has struggled in his career against New York, going 4-7 mark with a 5.62 ERA in 13 starts against New York.
