White Sox snap 10-game road skid in win over Twins
Aug 17, 2013 - 4:41 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Jeff Keppinger and Adam Dunn each homered in the third inning and Jose Quintana pitched into the seventh to help the White Sox snap a 10-game road skid with a 5-2 triumph over the Minnesota Twins.Dayan Viciedo had two hits and a pair of RBI for the White Sox, who won for the first time on the road since July 13 at Philadelphia.
Quintana (7-4) allowed six hits and two runs, and struck out seven over 6 2/3 innings to move to 3-0 on the road in 12 such starts this season.
"He gutted it out," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of his starter. "He went extra long for us tonight."
Kevin Correia (8-9) surrendered nine hits and five runs -- four earned -- over 7 1/3 innings to lose for the third time in four decisions.
Joe Mauer homered for the Twins, who lost for the third time in four contests.
This pitching matchup was a rematch from Sunday when Correia pitched seven shutout frames in a 5-2 win. It was a much different outcome on Friday.
Mauer homered to right-center field in the opening inning, but Dunn singled to start the second and scored on Viciedo's two-run base hit later in the frame.
Keppinger homered to left with one out in the third, and one out later Dunn went deep to right for his 28th homer of the year.
"I just made a couple of bad pitches for the two home runs. Obviously, it could have turned out better," Correia said. "Both were bad pitch selections."
Quintana was able to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam in the third and was lifted after allowing a Brian Dozier RBI single in the seventh that brought the Twins within 4-2.
Trevor Plouffe's error allowed Keppinger to score in the eighth, an inning in which a flying bat disrupted play.
Addison Reed pitched the final inning for his 29th save.
Game Notes
The Twins lead the season series, 10-4 ... This was the White Sox's longest road since 2007 when they lost 11 in a row ... Dunn has a nine-game hitting streak.
