Weaver, Bonser face off as Angels visit Twins
Jul 21, 2007 - 1:16 PM LA Angels (56-39) at Minnesota (50-46), 7:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Neither Boof Bonser nor Jered Weaver has been lighting up the win column lately.
At least one of them will have to wait one more start to pad their stats when the Minnesota Twins host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Saturday.
Bonser (5-6, 4.68 ERA) has not picked up a win since June 10, going 0-4 with a 6.69 ERA over his last six outings. He has walked 12 and surrendered five homers over that span, never yielding less than three earned runs.
The 25-year-old righthander got pounded in his lone appearance against Anaheim this season, allowing six runs and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss on June 3.
Weaver (6-5, 3.36) will be trying to pick up the slack for staff ace John Lackey, who got pounded in the Angels' 7-5 loss on Friday. That marked the seventh loss in Anaheim's last 10 contests, and cut its lead in the American League West to one game over the Seattle Mariners (54-39).
Weaver is 0-2 over his past three starts, despite allowing just four combined earned runs in 19 total innings. The 24-year-old righthander had previously earned wins in five straight decisions, including holding Minnesota to one run and five hits in seven frames on June 4.
Minnesota snapped a three-game losing streak with Friday's triumph.
