Haren gets start against Orioles
Jul 21, 2007 - 1:18 PM Baltimore (43-52) at Oakland (45-51) 9:05 pm EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) - Dan Haren will look to build on his resume for this year's Cy Young Award when the Oakland Athletics host the Baltimore Orioles in the second of a three-game series Saturday.
Haren (10-3, 2.33 ERA), who was the starter in the All-Star Game, has struggled recently. The 26-year-old righthander has seen his ERA baloon from 1.58 in his last six starts.
Haren pitched six innings, allowing two runs and seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins last Sunday.
He will be opposed by Steve Trachsel (5-6, 4.95), who was activated from the disabled on Friday after missing nearly a month with a strained gluteus muscle.
The Long Beach State alum is winless in his last four starts, posting an 0-2 record with a 9.87 ERA and just eight strikeouts over that span.
The 36-year-old Trachsel suffered his worst start of the season in his previous outing, getting tagged for five runs and nine hits over 1 2/3 innings in a 9-7 setback to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on June 29.
The Athletics have lost 10 of their last 11 games.
