Penny looks to overcome struggles against Mets

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Brad Penny will have to overcome his struggles against the New York Mets if he is to move into a tie for the National League lead in wins on Saturday.

Penny gets the ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they host New York in the third game of a four-game series.

The righthanded Penny (11-1, 2.33 ERA), who is trying to tie Carlos Zambrano for the league lead with 12 wins, is 4-10 with a 5.82 ERA in 17 starts against the Mets. That is the worst record the eight-year veteran has against any team.

Penny does have something to build on though. The All-Star beat New York here on June 13 by limiting them to one run and seven hits in seven innings in a 9-1 win.

The Mets won the first two games of the series following a 4-1 win on Friday. Jose Reyes doubled and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by former Met Roberto Hernandez in the eighth and Carlos Beltran followed with a two-run homer.

Jorge Sosa (7-4, 3.84) makes his second start since coming off the disabled list on Monday.

The righthanded Sosa was decent in his previous outing, allowing just two runs and five hits in six innings of a 5-1 loss to the San Diego Padres.
