Red Sox hope to keep rolling versus Orioles

Aug 28, 2013 - 2:55 PM (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox go after a fourth straight win on Wednesday when they continue a three-game set with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

After taking two of three from the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston continued to roll in Tuesday's opener, as Shane Victorino recorded his first multi-homer game in more than five years, driving in a career-best seven runs with a 3-for-3 performance in the Red Sox's 13-2.

"You can't please everybody. But if I can go out there every night, do my best, come inside, look myself in the mirror and say I gave 100 percent, that's the only person I need to answer to," said Victorino.

Dustin Pedroia contributed three hits and two RBI, while Johnny Gomes added a two-run double and Mike Napoli hit a solo shot for the Red Sox, winners in six of the last nine.

Felix Doubront (10-6) worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs, fanning seven with only one walk.

Brian Roberts and Manny Machado knocked in runs for the Orioles, who had won three of four coming into this set.

Wei-Yin Chen (7-7) was gone after 3 2/3 frames, charged with eight hits and as many runs.

"It seemed like every time Wei-Yin made a mistake, he paid for it," manager Buck Showalter said. "He jerked some balls across the plate and left some out over there where he usually doesn't do it."

Baltimore may have even more trouble on Tuesday against John Lackey, who has pitched well at Fenway this season, going 5-2 with a 2.07 ERA. Lackey, though, lost in Los Angeles on Friday, despite a solid effort that saw him surrender just two runs and three hits in eight innings. Lackey also struck out six without walking a batter, but still fell to 8-11, while lowering his ERA to 3.17.

"That's about as good as I've felt this year. I had everything pretty much working for me," Lackey said. "It's frustrating when one pitch can decide a game."

Lackey has faced the Orioles 21 times and is 12-5 against them with a 3.48 ERA.

Baltimore, meanwhile, will counter with righty Bud Norris, who is 9-10 with a 4.22 ERA. Norris was atrocious against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, as he was hammered for seven runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Norris is 0-1 in two starts versus the Red Sox with a 5.25 ERA.

Despite Tuesday's loss, Baltimore is 6-5 against the Red Sox this season.
