Marlins look to push their winning streak to three games

Jul 22, 2007 - 1:39 PM Cincinnati (41-57) at Florida (47-51) 1:05 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Florida Marlins will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they meet the Cincinnati Reds in the finale of a four-game series on Sunday.

Florida captured the middle two games of the series and improved to 5-4 since the All-Star break with an 11-1 win on Saturday. Jason Wood, Matt Treanor and Hanley Ramirez all plated runs in an impressive eight-run eighth inning.

It marked the second time in franchise history that the Marlins' lineup batted around in an inning without recording an out, with the first coming on September 17, 1995 at Colorado.

Florida's Rick Vanden Hurk (3-2, 7.15 ERA) will take the ball in search of his third straight win. In his last outing, Vanden Hurk tossed five scoreless innings to beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-0, on Monday.

The 22-year-old rookie is 1-2 with a 9.15 ERA in five lifetime starts at Dolphin Stadium, where the Marlins have struggled to a 22-29 showing.

Bronson Arroyo (4-10, 4.51) is coming off his best outing of the year for Cincinnati, striking out a season high-tying nine batters in seven scoreless frames of a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves.

After a lackluster 2-9 showing to open the campaign, Arroyo has bounced back of late, going 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA through his last four outings.
