Giants look to sweep Brewers
Jul 22, 2007 - 2:11 PM San Francisco (41-54) at Milwaukee (54-43) 3:55 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants send Barry Zito to the mound Sunday as they look to complete a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The lefthander signed a seven-year, $126 million contract this offseason, but has been a disappointment thus far with a 7-9 record and a 4.67 ERA.
Zito may be turning things around, however. He won for the first time in seven starts on Tuesday in a 4-2 win against the Chicago Cubs, allowing two runs - one earned - and striking out eight in seven innings.
Also on Sunday, Giants slugger Barry Bonds will be looking to get closer to Hank Aaron's mark of 755 homers. The seven-time MVP, who is just two home runs shy of tying Aaron, was hitless in four at-bats during Saturday's 8-0 win over the Brewers.
Third baseman Pedro Feliz drove in three runs, including a two-run homer, to help San Francisco win for just the third time in nine games since the All-Star break.
Milwaukee turns to Claudio Vargas (7-2, 4.47 ERA) as they look to avoid the sweep. The righthander earned the win in his last start, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday after allowing two runs and five hits in five innings of a 3-2 decision.
The Brewers will look to get their bats going on Sunday a day after being shut down by Giants' rookie righthander Tim Lincecum. Rookie Ryan Braun, Geoff Jenkins, Johnny Estrada and Craig Counsell had a hit apiece to account for Milwaukee's offense on Saturday.
