Dodgers hope to rebound in Cincinnati
Sep 6, 2013 - 2:40 PM (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to get back on track when they start a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds Friday. The NL West-leading Dodgers had a six-game winning streak stopped with Wednesday's 7-5 loss at Colorado, as Edinson Volquez was roughed up in his first start with L.A., and was charged with four runs across four innings.
Michael Young had three hits and two RBI in defeat.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly wasn't bothered by his team's loss.
"We're playing fine," Mattingly said. "I like where we're at."
Chris Capuano gets the ball Friday night for the Dodgers and is 4-7 with a 4.41 earned run average in 21 games (19 starts). The left-hander has faced the Reds 17 times (14 starts) in his career and is 3-3 with a 4.56 ERA.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, opened a 10-game homestand by taking three of four matchups with the St. Louis Cardinals.
In Thursday's 6-2 win over the Cards, Tony Cingrani got the win by allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings and was aided by four home runs.
Todd Frazier went deep twice and both Shin-Soo Choo and Jay Bruce homered for the Reds, who are three games off the NL Central lead and have a seven-game edge on Arizona and Washington for the final wild card spot.
"That was big...that's what we needed to do," Frazier said of taking the series. "The pitching came through and we did too."
Mike Leake will handle pitching duties for the Reds Friday and is 11-6 with a 3.51 ERA in 27 starts this season. Leake was hit for six runs in 4 1/3 innings of a 7-4 loss at Colorado on Sunday and owns a 1-2 mark in four career games (3 starts) against the Dodgers.
The Dodgers won a four-game set versus Cincinnati from July 25-28.
