Slumping White Sox continue series at Baltimore
Sep 6, 2013 - 3:07 PM (Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox can't get home soon enough. They'll try to put the brakes on a seven-game slide Friday, when they continue a four-game set with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
Chicago's miserable road trip continued in Thursday's opener, as Adam Jones, J.J. Hardy and Brian Roberts hit solo homers to back seven strong innings from Miguel Gonzalez and the Orioles rolled to a 3-1 win.
Gonzalez (9-7) -- 0-4 with a 6.68 ERA in his last eight appearances, including six starts -- allowed just a run on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Tommy Hunter and Jim Johnson threw the last two innings to lock down the win, with Johnson earning his 42nd save.
"They're all significant from here on out," said Orioles manager Buck Showalter. "If we take care of business it will be an interesting end of the season. It's an every day grind. It's difficult to do."
The White Sox have yet to win on a 10-game road trip and are an AL-worst 24-49 away from home this season.
"It's frustrating," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of his team's struggles. "You just keep going. There is nothing else you can do."
The Orioles hit all three of their homers off Chicago starter Jose Quintana (7-6), who allowed seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Getting the call for the Orioles on Friday will be righty Scott Feldman, who is 4-4 with a 4.18 ERA since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs. Feldman pitched well enough to win on Saturday in New York, as he allowed a run and six hits in seven innings, but was dealt the loss in a 2-0 setback.
Feldman is 4-2 with a 4.09 ERA in 15 games (9 starts).
Chicago, meanwhile, turns to lefty John Danks, who is coming off an awful showing his last time out. Danks seemed to be turning a corner with back-to- back wins, but was rocked in Boston on Saturday to the tune of six runs (5 earned) in five innings, dropping him to 4-11 to go along with a 4.35 ERA.
Danks is 1-7 over 10 starts on the road with a 4.77 ERA In 11 starts versus the O's Danks is 5-4 with a 4.08 ERA.
Chicago took two of three from the Orioles earlier in the season.
