Blue Jays, Twins get back to work at Target Field

Sep 7, 2013 - 12:52 PM (Sports Network) - J.A. Happ tries to put the brakes on a personal three-start losing streak on Saturday when the Toronto Blue Jays continue a three-game set with the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.

Happ's most recent loss came to Kansas City on Sunday, as the Royals reached him for five runs (3 earned) and six hits in four innings, dropping him to 3-5 on the year to go along with a 5.54 ERA.

"You guys are probably sick of me saying, 'It's frustrating,' because it's frustrating for everybody," said Happ, who has a 6.23 ERA in six starts since returning from injury. "They just hit them where we weren't, we got outplayed, and we lost, 5-0, today."

Minnesota, meanwhile, will hand the ball to veteran right-hander Kevin Correia, who is 9-10 with a 4.18 ERA. Correia won in Texas on Sunday, as he held the Rangers to a run and five hits over seven innings.

Correia now has a 1.31 ERA over his last three starts, having given up just three earned runs over 20 2/3 innings.

"I got in a situation in a few starts where I was just nibbling and my pitch count was up, so I tried to go back to what I was doing throwing more strikes and getting quicker outs," Correia said. "And I've been able to do that."

In five games against the Blue Jays Correia is 1-2 with a 6.16 ERA.

On Friday, Moises Sierra's two-run double helped Toronto to a 6-5 win. Brett Lawrie drove in a pair of runs while Jose Reyes scored twice and added an RBI for the Blue Jays, who have won three of four and six of eight.

R.A. Dickey (12-12) won his third straight start as he gave up three runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

"I feel like I've gotten stronger as the year has gone on. I feel like I've been able to carry my workload just fine," Dickey said. "I've got four more starts left, and hopefully I'll be able to log a lot more innings."

Chris Colabello hit a two-run home run and finished with three RBI and Josmil Pinto added a solo homer in the ninth for the Twins, who have dropped their past two games.

Mike Pelfrey (5-11) was tagged for six runs -- five earned -- on six hits and two walks along with seven strikeouts over six innings of work.

Toronto took two of three from the Twins earlier in the season.
