Braves, Marlins continue series in Miami

Sep 10, 2013 - 2:49 PM (Sports Network) - Colombian righty Julio Teheran can pick up consecutive wins against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night when the Atlanta Braves visit Marlins Park for the second of four games.

Teheran is 2-0 in three career meetings with the Marlins, including his last start on Aug. 30 in Atlanta, in which he tossed 6 1/3 innings of four-hit, one-run ball in a 2-1 triumph.

The other win came July 9 in Miami, when he was touched for seven hits and a single earned run over 7 1/3 innings while earning a 6-4 victory.

Eight starts in between those two wins saw Teheran go 3-3, while the Braves were 5-3 with him on the mound.

He's 4-4 in 12 road starts this season, with the last road victory coming Aug. 6 at Washington.

He's opposed by Bronx-born righty Tom Koehler, who starts against the Braves for the second time.

The 27-year-old got a no-decision at Atlanta on July 2 after allowing three runs on five innings of a game the Marlins ultimately lost, 11-3.

He won two of his subsequent three starts into early August, but has since gone 0-3 in his last six outings while his earned run average has ticked upward to 4.70.

Koehler is 1-4 in 10 appearances in Miami this season.

On Monday, Kris Medlen worked 6 1/3 strong innings to lead the Braves to a 5-2 win.

Medlen (13-12) allowed two runs on six hits while fanning six to pick up his third straight win.

Evan Gattis had a two-run double, while Chris Johnson and Elliot Johnson finished with one RBI apiece for the Braves, who snapped a four-game skid. With the win, Atlanta remains 12 games ahead of the Washington Nationals for the top spot in the NL East.

Craig Kimbrel worked a perfect ninth to notch his league leading 45th save of the season.

Ed Lucas drove in both runs for the Marlins, losers in four of their last five games. Henderson Alvarez (3-4) yielded five runs on five hits and three walks over four innings to absorb the loss.

Atlanta won 10 of the first 15 games with the Marlins this season, including two of three in a series from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.
