Blue Jays look to entend winning streak to four games
Jul 24, 2007 - 3:15 PM Minnesota (51-48) at Toronto (49-50) 7:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays will try to push their winning streak to four games as they meet the Minnesota Twins in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.
Slugger Frank Thomas delivered two of the Blue Jays' four home run off reigning Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana for a 6-4 victory in Monday's series opener.
Dustin McGowan (6-5, 4.84 ERA) makes his first start at home after enduring four straight outings on the road. In his last time out, McGowan allowed just two hits in seven innings of a 3-2 win against the New York Yankees on Thursday.
The righthander, who is 3-1 here this season, will make his first career start against the Twins. McGowan gave up one run with two strikeouts in an inning of relief in his lone career appearance in the series.
Minnesota sends Scott Baker (4-3, 5.32) to the mound. Baker gave up three runs and a season-tying 10 hits in 6 1/3 frames, but did not figure in the decision of a 4-3 setback to Detroit.
The 25-year-old was brilliant in his last outing against the Jays, allowing one run with nine strikeouts through seven innings in a no-decision on June 26.
