Red-hot Yankees go for five straight against Royals

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The New York Yankees are pounding opposing pitchers into submission lately, and the Kansas City Royals are their latest victims.

The Yankees will be looking for their fifth straight win when they visit the Royals in the second game of a four-game series on Tuesday.

After a 9-2 drubbing of Kansas City on Monday, New York has scored 54 runs during their four-game streak, pounding the Tampa Bay Devil Rays over the weekend for 45 runs in three games.

Chien-Ming Wang (10-5, 3.44 ERA) will hope to reap the benefits of his team's hot bats. The Taiwanese sinkerballer had a seven-decision win streak snapped last Thursday against Toronto when he allowed three runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Wang will be facing a Royals team that has been hot lately, taking series from division leaders Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and second-place Seattle.

Scott Elarton (2-3, 9.17) will be on the mound for Kansas City. The 31-year-old righthander is coming off the disabled list for the second time this season after spending 34 days off with a right foot strain.

Yankees sluggers Alex Rodriguez will enter the game two home runs shy of 500 for his career. He has hit well against Elarton in the past, pounding the veteran at a .563 clip (9-for-16) with three homers and seven RBI.
